Have a contractor come out to your home and look at what you need done. Show the contractor where you want to put the shelves, how many shelves you need, and what you want the shelves to be made out of. The contractor will be able to take all of this information and easily figure out an estimate on the total cost of your garage shelving.

Try to work out a simple contract with your contractor before he or she gets to work. This contract doesn't need to be legally binding. The point of the contract is to lay out your relationship with the contractor in black and white. It will explain the scope of the work to be done, the cost of the job, and any payment terms you have set down with your contractor. If you have a contract on hand, then you can be sure that you won't be stuck in any uncomfortable situations due to poor communication.
