The most important thing you can do here is look at the carpenter's previous work. Cabinet installation is very difficult and it is very easy to mess up angles and symmetry without the proper skills. By looking into the history of the carpenter, you will know for certain that they are capable of producing attractive results.

Contact many different carpenters in your area for price estimates. Never assume that the price you are offered from one carpenter will be the same as the price you are offered from another one. Carpenters are often willing to lower prices to get work.

Make sure that you have a design of what the finished cabinet setup will look like and make sure the carpenter sticks to it. You should have a final proof of what the cabinets will look like once they are fully installed.

Have a contract laid down with the contractor you use. This contract should include everything from the amount of time the installation will take to how much the carpenter will charge you. Without a contract, you will have little to no legal recourse against issues with the carpenter.
