If cost is a concern ask what money saving changes can be made. Oftentimes a designer will pay a worker to prep the space before the bulk of the work, overseen by the designer, begins. Eliminating the need for that worker by doing the prep yourself may save money on the project.

Look through wallpaper books that the designer commonly orders from. With a vast variety of wallpaper books on the market, a designer with the same basic tastes as yours will make the best fit.

Be sure that the particular designer you are considering has experience working with your wall type. Sheetrock, plaster, panelling and stucco require different skills for completing a successful project.

Ask about follow-up visits after the job is complete. Discuss how problems, should they arise, will be handled.

Hire someone courteous and professional. A good designer should have a strong portfolio as well as a positive attitude. Check references to be sure the designer is of good character.
