You should check on the qualifications of each contractor you consider hiring. Some pest control experts require a greater level of licensing than others for a number of reasons. The most common licensing requirement that can vary from contractor to contractor is pesticide applicator licensing. Some contractors do not use chemical pesticides at all when they eliminate insect pests. Others rely very heavily on pesticides to do their work. All states have licensing requirements for anyone that applies pesticides. You should always make sure your contractor is currently licensed.

Once you decide on a contractor, you should write up a very simple contract that outlines what you expect. This does not have to be a legally binding document since you are not using it to bind you and your contractor together legally. The purpose of the contract is simply to make your responsibility to your contractor very clear and vice versa.
